Roller Skiing

Roller skiing is an important skill to develop early and summer is a great time to learn.

Equipment needs

Roller skis

Nordic North Stars has a livery of roller skis for juniors to use during practice.  If you own your own set of roller skis, great, make sure they are in good working order.

Helmet

Gloves - to protect hands

Skate Boots - the same boots used in the winter can be used in the summer.

Skate Poles - the same poles used in the winter can also be used in the summer. It is a good idea to add roller ski ferrule to the poles for better grip on pavement.  Roller ski ferrule are sold at most ski shops in the summer.

Drink Belt - we are usually out skiing for more than an hour so it is important to have drink and snacks on hand.  Water backpacks are okay but tend to throw small bodies off balance.

Locations

We will meet either at the Munger trailhead, located behind the Munger Inn in West Duluth or the Heritage Center parking lot.  These two locations offer safe skiing and learning environments.

Practice Cancellations

If it is raining, practice is cancelled.  It is very dangerous to roller ski when the pavement is wet.  We will try to schedule a make-up session later in the summer or on a different day.
